Greetings & Introductions

Announcements:

The South End clean-up will take place on Saturday 5/4/02 from 9:00 to 1:00.    The City will provide supplies which can be collected in front of the BCA.   

Landmarks Committee "Emergency" meeting on razing 296 Shawmut, to be held at the cite, Monday 4/8 from 5:00 to 6:00.

BRA Public Meeting on development/re-use of Area D4 Police Station, Wednesday 17 April, 6:00, Boston Ballet School, Studio 2.

South End Garden Tour, Saturday 6/15, 10:00 to 4:00.

SENC:

President Kozlowski and Vice President McLachlan, co-delegates to South End Neighborhood Coalition, reported that the SENC will work at their next meeting to finalize their position on alleviating trash problems.    While increased/improved recycling (via education) is being pursued, other programs are possible.    SENC will work with the City to make agreed upon improvements.

ABN:

Ed Allen, delegate to The Alliance of Boston Neighborhoods, reported that the ABN is 1). working with Walk Boston on improving pedestrian safety throughout the City  2).  trying to address the issue of spot zoning for preferred developers with the BRA   3).  trying to have input to assure that the open space created by the Central Artery project is used appropriately, and 4).  striving top assure equitable mass transit (e.g. making sure that the inner city is served proportionately to the affluent suburbs.

Miscellany:

Ed Allen has also been monitoring crime statistics for the area.    Eight Streets had between 02/24/02 and 03/24/02 two break-ins, a handbag robbery, an incident of vandalism, one of larceny and a report of a missing person.

The Officers will be working to encourage current and former Eight Streets members to take a more active involvement with the organization.
