At the 6 August meeting of the Eight Streets Neighborhood Association, Mr. Tim Vontz and his architect, Ms. Sara Hines, made a presentation requesting support for a zoning variance that would allow him to replace and enlarge an existing private roof deck at his home at 28 Dwight St. While it has been our experience that a variance is not required for roof decks, Mr. Vontz explained that he was directed to the ZBA by ISD when he applied for a work permit. The proposed new deck would rest on steel beams which would run from bearing wall to bearing wall. The existing deck is 19' X 15' 6" and the proposed new deck would be 20' 3.5" X 29' 3". Mr. Vontz showed us a letter indicating that the Boston Landmarks Commission has inspected his property in comparison to the plans and found that the proposed new deck would not be visible from the street and thus is not a Landmarks' concern.

Eight Streets NA membership voted to not oppose this request for a variance.
