Violence in Eight Streets
Unfortunately, violence in Eight Streets is rising, as it is elsewhere in the South End, as well as all over Boston. We recently had a shooting in ESNA (news article). Those who committed the shooting have been caught, and the investigation is ongoing. ESNA is in constant communications with the police department to keep updated.

Our portion of the south end has a new dedicated bicycle patrol (Officer Bob Boyle) through the Fall months. Feel free to introduce yourself if you see him on patrol. If you have a general police question, you can also email the D4 community Service Coordinator Carolyn MacNeil .

All residents are reminded to call 911 if they see suspicious activity, or to report any crime. If you have a cell phone, calling 617-3434-911 will connect you to Boston's emergency services. (calling 911 from a cell will get you state police, who will have to transfer you to Boston). For new residents, Boston's police is set up that any call where you would like an office requires a call to 911. This includes non emergencies like getting a car towed or reporting a loud party.

Valet woes
We've been having some trouble with the valet companies again. We've seen speeding issues, as well as many instances of double and even triple parking. ESNA is working with UP and Ellis to provide a united front for the neighborhood. The city has also seen the problem and is getting more involved. The Globe has reported on some problems this week, in an article about general valet problems and meter tampering.

Valets need to adhere to the following guidelines. If you see a problem with a valet company, let us know so I can contact the company. If you see an immediate problem, like excessive double parking, you can also call the city (617-635-4500) and get BTD out to ticket them.
  • Valets must use their parking garage. They cannot park cars on the street at any time.
  • The valet zone must be kept clear of cars. they can only park cars there after a drop-off or before a pickup - no storage of cars at the valet zones.
  • They cannot legally double park, ever.
  • They need to drive safely to their parking lots, staying on designated routes, and obey speed limits.

Postal Complaints
The South End has a new e-mail for all postal complaints. Please send all complaints (or compliments) you have, no matter how small, to bostonconsumeraffairs 'at' usps.com . Please be as detailed as possible when documenting your problem.

Shop 'til you drop
Eight Streets has opened a shop at Cafe press, where you can get items with our logo on them. Check out the 'buy stuff' link on the left.

Police representative
We are looking for a volunteer to attend a monthly community meeting with the local PD. Last monday each month - just catch up on news for us and be our presence at the meeting.
