To Whom It May Concern:

As an abutting neighborhood association, this letter is to express the Eight Streets Neighborhood AssociationŐs support for the Neck Art Project in Peters Park. Bob Wells and Anne McQueen (co-chairs of Neck Art Project) presented the design and concept to members of the neighborhood association at the December 6, 2006 monthly ESNA meeting and all attending members voted in support of the project.

The art project is intended to call attention to the history of the land and the people who have passed by the proposed location at the edge of Peters Park for the centuries during which Boston was developing from an outpost on the Shawmut Peninsula into the city it has become. The art piece will be a welcome addition to the neighborhood and Peters Park in particular, expanding the role of the Park in the lives of both the residents and visitors who use it every day.

The project will be guided by a committee representing a broad coalition of community, artist, and city representatives. Shauna Gillies-Smith, the leader of the design team, is someone long familiar with the neighborhood and its history. The project also reinforces the emphasis on the arts and artists that are an important part of the fabric our community.

We urge you to join us in our support of this project.

Sincerely,

Heather Howland

Secretary, Eight Streets Neighborhood Association
