Snow Information
Below we have summarized the highlights of the city snow policy. For complete information, please the City's Snow service, Know Snow. Complete information and guides are on this page. Also southend.org has a page on Snow Emergencies.
For cars:
- Your resident sticker must be visible within 24 hours of snow's end.
- When shoveling your car, put snow in-between cars - not on the street and not on the sidewalk.
- You must clear all the snow off your car before driving. No driving with covered windows, or piles of snow on hood, trunk or roof.
- When the city calls for a snow emergency
- No parking on major marked snow arteries
- Alternate side of the street parking in effect (although never enforced)
- Often local garages offer discounted parking while the Emergency is in effect. Please see the City pages for a list of garages.
For residents
- Snow must be cleared from sidewalks with 3 hours of snow's end.
- If you own a corner lot, you must clear sidewalks on both sides of your building.
- If you own a corner lot, you must clear at least one path to a street.
- Clean out any fire hydrants. Remember, firefighters get to the hydrants from the street (shoveling only a path from the sidewalk to the hydrant doesn't help)
